HSE University and Rossotrudnichestvo Agree to Train Specialists in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language
HSE University and Rossotrudnichestvo have signed an agreement to establish a Russian Language Centre at HSE University in St Petersburg. It will train teachers of Russian studies and future leaders of educational programmes and courses of Russian as a foreign language. The document was signed by HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov and Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Nikita Anisimov stressed that the university and Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) have a long-standing partnership. HSE University has a good reputation in the international academic community, and the signed agreement will make it possible to promote its high standards and quality of education abroad and attract foreign students. ‘We chose HSE University in St Petersburg as the basis of our cooperation because it is the most dynamically developing university campus, a campus with high dynamics of international contacts and a large number of international educational programmes,’ said the rector.
Yevgeny Primakov highlighted that the agency has friendly relations with the university, and that new agreements will only strengthen them. ‘It is with great pleasure that we represent the interests of HSE University abroad wherever possible. We are ready to be your field offices,’ he said.
The agreement provides for the creation of a Russian Language Centre at HSE University in St Petersburg. The centre will train not only Russian language teachers, but also future heads of educational programmes and courses of Russian as a foreign language.
Graduates of the centre will be able to effectively develop curricula tailored to meet changing market requirements, as well as manage the educational process while working in the competitive foreign language market. Another important component of the programme will be tutor support from experienced practicing teachers in the field of Russian as a foreign language, as well as experts from Rossotrudnichestvo.
Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University in St Petersburg
‘Russian is one of the five most competitive languages in the world. And we must maintain this position. We are sure that the joint initiative of HSE University and Rossotrudnichestvo will become another important element in the architecture of the humanitarian activities of the Russian Federation. The launch of the Russian Language Centre at HSE University in St Petersburg is a response to the growing demand for specialists who are not only proficient in modern methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, but who also have the managerial skills to launch new projects in the field of Russian studies abroad.’
